New Coalition Launches to Support Community Pharmacies Across America
EmpiRx Health is launching Pharmacy Allies Transforming Healthcare (PATH), a new coalition that is focused on empowering community pharmacies and protecting their vital role in America’s healthcare. The PATH coalition brings together pharmacies and pharmacists, employers that sponsor health benefit plans, policymakers, and other healthcare stakeholders, who are committed to building a more affordable and sustainable healthcare system in America. Community pharmacies are the backbone of our nation’s healthcare system. However, independent community pharmacies are closing their doors at an alarming rate, limiting care options for communities across America. According to the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), more than 5,800 pharmacies have closed since 2018. As a result, an estimated 45% of US counties are now considered to be pharmacy deserts, with rural communities being the hardest hit. We invite you to visit the PATH website for more information.

Clinically Speaking
We’re excited to announce the launch of Clinically Speaking, our new podcast that explores the vital role pharmacy care plays in the nation’s healthcare system and the growing need to fundamentally transform the PBM industry to improve patient health outcomes and reduce rising drug costs. Our first episode features Danny Sanchez, CEO of EmpiRx Health. In the podcast, Danny discusses why community pharmacies are so essential to America’s healthcare, and how putting pharmacists back at the center of the PBM service model is revolutionizing pharmacy care. In addition, Danny comments on the importance of enacting national PBM reform to fix the broken operating model used by the largest PBM companies. Check out Episode 1 of Clinically Speaking and stay tuned for more conversations with leaders and innovators who are shaping the future of healthcare.

The Urgent Need to Empower and Protect America’s Pharmacies
The anticompetitive, self-dealing business practices of the largest PBMs have long hurt community pharmacies, driving an alarming number of them into bankruptcy or out of business altogether. In a recently released video “The Urgent Need to Empower and Protect America’s Pharmacies,” our CEO, Danny Sanchez, asks pharmacy leaders to let their voices be heard in the fight to advance essential PBM reform. Danny comments that pharmacy industry leaders have the power to stop the anti-pharmacy practices of legacy PBMs by not giving them their own pharmacy benefits business. Earlier this year, EmpiRx Health launched AllyRx, the first national pharmacy care network specifically built for retail pharmacy organizations. Danny discusses how AllyRx is already playing a key part in empowering community pharmacies to strengthen and continue their crucial role in the healthcare system. Watch the video here.

Customer Satisfaction with PBMs has Hit a 15-Year Low.
BenefitsPRO Magazine recently reported on a new Pharmaceutical Strategies Group (PSG) study, which found that employers and health plans are more frustrated than ever with traditional pharmacy benefit managers. According to the PSG study, satisfaction with the large, legacy PBMs among benefits plan sponsors is substantially down in key areas such as customer service, transparency, and the management of drug costs. The good news is that more organizations are open to exploring switching to alternative PBM companies. At EmpiRx Health, we’ve long believed the traditional PBM model is broken and needs to be completely transformed. That’s why we built a customer- and member-focused pharmacy care company that puts pharmacists at the center of the PBM service model and prioritizes the clinical appropriateness of medication therapies, not financial arbitrage to maximize rebate profits.
