Clinical Success Story

Patient: 61-year-old male
Diagnosis: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
Population Health Management Engine Identified: Therapy optimization opportunity.

•  The patient was prescribed a new therapy, Enbrel SureClick® 50 mg/ml, for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Upon review, our Care Team identified that the patient had not previously trialed first‑line treatment options.

•  Our in‑house pharmacist reached out to the prescriber to review the patient’s previous therapies and potential contraindications, and to discuss appropriate first‑line alternatives for RA treatment. It was confirmed that the patient did not have a contraindication to Leflunomide, and the prescriber agreed to change the therapy.

•  The member was counseled on the alternative treatment and prescribed Leflunomide 20 mg tablets. This intervention resulted in improved clinical outcomes and measurable cost savings.
