FAIR Rx Act

Tennessee’s recently signed FAIR Rx Act takes aim at vertical integration in pharmacy benefits management, underscoring a broader push for accountability, competition, and patient choice. When a small number of companies control patient access to prescription drugs, the impact is felt across the healthcare system through rising plan costs and growing affordability challenges for patients.

At EmpiRx Health, our independent, pharmacist-led model has always operated outside of a vertically integrated structure. We support efforts that preserve freedom of choice and keep clinical decision-making at the center of pharmacy care.

Clinical Success Story

Patient: 32-year-old female
Diagnosis: Pancreatic insufficiency due to cystic fibrosis
Population Health Management Engine Identified: High-risk member & high-cost medication

• The patient was prescribed Zenpep at a total daily dose of 960,000 units for the treatment of pancreatic insufficiency due to cystic fibrosis. Upon review, our Care Management Team identified that the patient was experiencing side effects associated with the current Zenpep regimen. The patient was flagged as high-risk by the Population Health Management Engine, and given that Zenpep is a high-cost medication, the case warranted further evaluation to optimize therapy.

•  EmpiRx Health clinicians contacted the physician to discuss the dosing and the physician agreed that a lower dose would be clinically appropriate and reduce the side effect the patient had been experiencing.

•  The member was counseled on the treatment and prescribed a lower dose of Zenpep 660,000 units per day. This intervention resulted in improved clinical outcomes and measurable cost savings.
