Montvale, NJ – July 5, 2017 – EmpiRx Health is excited to announce the implementation of its new Opioid Management Program to help reduce opioid abuse among its members. EmpiRx Health currently administers a comprehensive Fraud Waste and Abuse (FWA) Program that helps detect and address potentially fraudulent member and pharmacy activities, as well as waste and abuse cases.

“We have comprehensive protocols in place and have documented positive results based on our monitoring and analyses of our current FWA programs, however, given the rise in addiction and misuse of opioid medications such as Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Morphine, and Methadone, we feel it is important to target and better manage opioids,” said Polina Kogan, RPh, PharmD, Vice President of Clinical Services.

Through this program, all new prescriptions for opioids will have a limited day supply for the initial fill. If the patient needs a higher day supply, a review for clinical appropriateness will be required. In addition, opioid prescriptions will only be filled for up to a maximum of a 30-day supply. These changes will help ensure the safety of EmpiRx Health members, limit excessive waste and produce cost savings for the plan.
